Community service
2017- 2018 Community Service Opportunities:
Community Service requirements for this year. Our hours can not be the same as IB hours. Also you will be required to attend one NJHS wide community service opportunity. For the 2017-18 school year, the two major NJHS community service opportunities will be in October with the Mutt Strutt and in May with Relay for Life. Decide now in which one you will participate so you don't get caught missing your NJHS required hours.
All forms are due May 11, 2018. Do not forget your NJHS hours. Failure to complete NJHS required hours or turning in your form on time will result in probation. If you are an 8th grader - then it is similar to being dismissed from NJHS. You will not be able to say you were a NJHS member if you leave TMS on probation.
Community Service Opportunities – Henrico County Public Libraries offers community service opportunities through these programs:
- Read + Review (Grades 6-12) – students can read a new book and submit a review online for credit up to 2 hours per book, 10 hours per semester. This is very popular with our middle-schoolers!
- Teen Advisory Board (Grades 7-12) – applications for 2017-2018 are being accepted. This group of teens meets monthly during the school year to plan and host programs and complete service projects. Call 804-501-1910 ext 5 for details.
- Volunteen (Grades 8-12, Ages 14-18) – VolunTeens are volunteers, ages 14-18, who help out in the library during the summer, and sometimes during the school year. VolunTeens shelve books, assist with programs, and complete service projects to benefit the library.
Open now: volunteer signup for the 8U tennis for fall. Our matches begin on Saturday, September 23rd from 12:30 PM-2:30 PM and will continue for six weeks. As in years past, we would love to see your students as court monitors.
We truly value their participation. Your volunteers are critical to the overall success of these young people. Our volunteer opportunity is open to all students, but typically those who have taken tennis lessons (at some point in their life) are usually the most comfortable. Our court monitors help 5-8 year old tennis players keep score and encourage exceptional sportsmanship.
